Wimbledon Order of Play Today: Day 3

Updated: 4 days ago

It's been an amazing first two days at Wimbledon with lots of upsets and a number of top seeds dropping out. But as the scorching heat turns to pouring rain, lets take a look at the order of play today and how it might be disrupted.

Reminder all matches from Court 2 onwards, play gets under way at 11am

Centre Court (1.30pm)

Aryna Sabalenka *1 vs Marie Bouzkova (CZE) – It was a fairly dominant display from the world number 1 in her first-round match, which she won in a little over an hour. Her second-round opponent should be slightly trickier. Bouzkova made the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2022 and defeated the dangerous Lulu Sun in the first round. Sabalenka will likely still prevail, but it should be a great match.

Oliver Tarvet (GBR) vs Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) *2 – What a first-round victory it was for Oliver Tarvet. The 21-year-old, currently ranked 733rd in the world, has been rewarded with a match on Centre Court against, on form, the best player in the world. Alcaraz looked shaky in his first-round match against Fognini, but with the weather cooling, I think he should be back to his best for this match. Or could we have one of the upsets of the decade on our hands?

Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Marketa Vondrousova (CZE) – A truly fantastic match-up concludes proceedings on Centre Court today with Emma Raducanu taking on 2023 Wimbledon champ Marketa Vondrousova. The pair have met three times before, with Vondrousova winning two; however, Raducanu’s victory did come on the grass of Wimbledon four years ago.

Court 1 (1pm)

Cameron Norrie (GBR) vs Frances Tiafoe (USA) *12 – Britain’s semi-final hero from 2022 has a tough match on his hands to kick off court 1 proceedings. Norrie looked great in his first-round match as he over came the tricky Bautista Agut, but has not been handed anyone easier for his second round. Tiafoe is one of the most talented players on tour, and while he has struggled on grass in the past, I believe his game is well suited to the surface.

Katie Boulter (GBR) vs Solana Sierra (ARG) – What an exceptional win it was for Boulter in round 1. In an incredibly tight match, the British number 2 held her nerve to come through against the 9th seed, Badosa. Her next round match should* be considerably easier. Sierra is relatively new to the tour, and not much is known about her, while a player with nothing to lose is dangerous; Boulter will likely triumph with ease.

Taylor Fritz (USA) *5 vs Gabriel Diallo (CAN) – While not quite to the extent of his first-round match, this has the potential to be another five-set serve-a-thon. Fritz was impressive in his first round, even if it did go five sets, not conceding a single break point the entire match (that probably says more about his opponent than it does him). Diallo can be dangerous, but I see Fritz winning this one.

Court 2 (11am)

Olga Danilovic (SRB) vs Madison Keys (USA) *6 – A closer first round for Keys than she would have hoped for, but the Australian Open champion will be looking to keep the momentum up. This is only Danilovic’s second appearance at Wimbledon, with this being the furthest she has progressed. Her inexperience could be a factor in Keys’ progression to the next round.

Nuno Borges (POR) vs Billy Harris (GBR) – Billy Harris had a good first round win against Lajovic and has set up a second-round match against the dangerous Nuno Borges. The Brit may have trouble with Borges, who beat Cerundolo in the first round, but there are worse draws.

Naomi Osaka (JPN) vs Katerina Siniakova (CZE) – As the former World No.1 looks to get back to her best, she takes on Siniakova who defeated Zheng in the first round. Wimbledon has never been a happy hunting ground for Osaka, and it will be a tall ask for her to beat Sinaikova.

Arthur Fery (GBR) vs Luciano Darderi (ITA) – It was a fantastic result in round one for Fery as he defeated the much-fancied Popyrin. He showed great grit and determination, and will have to do so again to beat the talented Darderi.
