Hungerford Tennis Club is a part of The Hungerford Club, which also includes a Bowls section and Indoor Sports (Snooker and Darts). Set in an idyllic position on Hungerford Croft beside the canal, the club is a local institution – over a hundred years old – that prides itself on a friendly, inclusive ethos; a place where new members of all abilities will receive a warm welcome, meet people from every walk of life and stay healthy in an enjoyable way promoting both physical and mental health as well as an easy way to integrate into the community. We have recently enjoyed increased membership across all age groups and our club play sessions are extremely popular.
Community Engagement & Development
In the last couple of years we have tasked ourselves with becoming more involved with the wider community and consequently when we had our top court resurfaced, we installed an extra gate to enable PAY&PLAY- now open to non members . Courts cost £7 per hour and available to book through our website. Rackets and (used) balls are available to borrow free of charge
The money we raise from Pay and Play will be used to pay for community groups to book sessions with our resident head coach, James Kilpatrick (JK). JK has already done 18 sessions with MENCAP but as their initial funding has now run out, we are continuing these sessions with the tennis section paying for the coaching. JK also runs coaching for all age groups most of which are open to non members (members get a discount) He is also passionate about Youth Development, providing valuable paid work experience opportunities for aspiring coaches aged 16-18 and offering volunteering opportunities for school teenagers participating in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme. We aim to encourage fitness, confidence, teamwork and improve mental health.
Keeping our courts in top condition takes a lot of work and indeed money. We purposely keep our membership fees low so we can be as affordable to as many households as possible so we greatly appreciate the sponsorship we receive from Wimbledon Debenture Tickets . Many thanks for your continued support.

Community Tennis
Although they are a friendly bunch, they do not lose sight of the tennis season, producing teams for the summer leagues. They host a Men’s A, B and C team (the C team especially looking to provide youngsters with match play experience), a Mixed and a Ladies team (who achieved promotion this year).
The Next Chapter
Hungerford Tennis club is looking to continue to expand its membership, especially to younger player, and develop its current facilities; these include the resurfacing, re-fencing and lighting to all four courts. Work has already started on renovating the clubhouse.
Proud Ambassador
Hungerford Tennis Club demonstrate that they are an enthusiastic and friendly club with a committee focused on continuing its success and
bringing the benefits of playing the sport to as many young people and families as possible for generations to come.
