Day 11 gave us action-packed madness as Aryna Sabalenka bowed out at the hands of Amanda Anisimova in three sets to reach the final. It was business as usual for Iga Swiatek in the other semi-final, as she demolished Belinda Bencic to reach her first-ever Wimbledon final. All eyes now are on today’s semi-final matchups, but who will come out on top today? Let's find out.
Centre Court (1.30pm)
Taylor Fritz (USA) *5 vs Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) *2 – The ace machine that is Taylor Fritz will be hoping to use his magic touch once again as he faces off against the favourite, Carlos Alcaraz. The American so far this tournament has recorded almost 19 aces per match, blitzing his way to what will be his first-ever Wimbledon semi-final. Yet flashy serving does not win you championships. Carlos Alcaraz enters this round for the third consecutive year and will most likely be manifesting an appearance in the final yet again. His dismantling of Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinal in an hour and thirty-eight minutes proved just how determined he is and will more than likely trouble Fritz and his weak short game. However, if Fritz is effectively able to push Alcaraz back with his powerful serve, alongside his aggressive baseline play, he may stand a chance in stopping the Spaniard from achieving a historic three-peat. With everything on the line here, be sure to watch what will be electric, fast-paced tennis.
Jannik Sinner (ITA) *1 vs Novak Djokovic (SRB) *6 – It all comes down to this for Jannik Sinner. After never making it to the final at Wimbledon, he faces his toughest challenge to do so. A semi-final epic versus one of the King’s of grass court tennis – Novak Djokovic. The Italian’s run up to today can be seen as one of the strangest at Wimbledon to date. After strolling through the first three rounds without dropping a set, he faced off against Grigor Dimitrov. The Bulgarian was once tipped to be the next megastar of tennis but never reached his full potential. Yet, Dimitrov was able to wipe the floor with Sinner in the first 2 sets of their matchup. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire, giving Sinner a free pass into the quarterfinal, where he then went on to thrash Ben Shelton in three sets. Many say that luck has to be on your side when winning anything, and so far, it most certainly has been there for Jannik Sinner. But will it still be there as he faces his next opponent? Novak Djokovic has come from one set down in the last two rounds and gone on to win 3-1 in both, showing off his experience when it comes to winning matches. This will be his 14th Wimbledon semi-final, surpassing the great Roger Federer, but I’m sure that the Serbian won’t even be thinking about this. He has his eyes set on greater achievements – winning Wimbledon for the eighth time in his career and cementing himself as the greatest tennis player of all time. Only time will tell if he can overcome the Italian Stallion, but expect this match to be an all-timer in Wimbledon history.
